There’s something special about buying a piece of jewelry made by someone who has been honing their craft for several decades. Roger Thompson and Cynthia Reed have been making and selling unique pieces of contemporary jewelry for over 40 years. Worn by rock stars and corporate CEOs, their designs are as cool and quirky as their creators.

Goldsmiths creates one-of-a-kind, custom-designed pieces of audacious lapidary elegance. Their designs are non-traditional, and start with the finest quality precious and semi-precious stones collected over decades from all over the world. In addition to working with gold and platinum, their jewelry sometimes makes use of unusual materials such as wrought iron.

After stints as a Navy medic and then at Princeton University, where he conducted research in the field of animal brain physiology, Roger discovered his true calling lay in designing unusual pieces of fine jewelry and fabricating them by hand. From the outset his pieces featured a minimalist orientation. He studied traditional Japanese metalworking techniques early on, and graduated from the GIA in 1969.

Cindy and Roger began their collaboration, in life as well as in the art of jewelry making, during the mid-1970s. She holds a degree in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology from Bryn Mawr, and later graduated from the GIA. She is a seasoned connoisseur of rare artisanal craftsmanship of the highest quality, across many fields.

Over the years Goldsmiths’ creations have been variously described as striking, refined, adventuresome and bold. They are often commissioned to produce bespoke pieces catered to discriminating preferences and tastes.

“Each of [the Goldsmiths’] designs, combined with the exquisite gems they work with, make buying and owning their jewelry a pleasure to be enjoyed year after year. They are true treasures!”
